Herbal medicine and your medication: what to ask first
Natural does not always mean harmless. Some herbs can change how medication works in the body, which is why we always start with a full list of what you already take.
Why interactions happen
Certain herbs can affect how quickly the body processes some medicines, or add to their effects. That can make a medication weaker or stronger than intended. The risk depends on the specific herb, the dose and the medicine involved.
Questions to ask your practitioner
What is in this formula, and why was each herb chosen? Could any of it interact with my current medication? How long should I take it, and how will we know if it is working?
Tell everyone involved
Let your doctor and pharmacist know about any herbal products you take, and tell your herbalist about any new prescription. Keeping everyone informed is the single most effective safety step.
How we work
We review your medication before recommending any herbs, prescribe formulas at clear doses, and adjust or stop them as your symptoms and treatment change.
This article is general information, not medical advice. Do not stop or change prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor.
